In a wide landscape where the waters flow slowly and solemnly, where the open sky blends with the cane thickets and the sea, among the flat stretches of the Delta, there is a company which has an evocative name: Meridiana 2000.
It is the name of an ancient instrument, namely an iron pointer which casts its shadow on a stone dial. Through ancient words it tells us of the time that goes by and of the nature that never changes like the resources offered by this land: traditions, colours, tastes together with flora and fauna which are almost unparalleled in Europe.
These
are things that Meridiana 2000 wishes to make more valuable. It is a type
of tourism which does not end in one single period of the year since it
combines amusing and pastime activities with culture, art, festivals and
traditions throughout the seasons. Besides fishing, sailing and canoeing,
which can already be practised , other interesting and original activities
will be devoloped such as sheat-fishing, authorized by the present rules
from Papozze to the sea, which already attracts foreign people from the
North and the East of Europe.
We are now planning bed & breakfasts, camping sites and other kind of accomodation, without neglecting students, sport centres, life-routes, golf courses, baloon areas, swimming-pools and motorship trips along the river Po. Papozze, which is very near the first branch of the Delta, is an ideal mooring for ships flowing up to Mantova.
It
is just an hour from such art cities as Venice, Verona, Padua, Ferrara,
Ravenna and even less from culturally insteresting places such as Adria
with the Etruscan Museum, Rovigo with the Rotonda, the Pinacoteca dei
Concordi and the Museum of the Great Rivers, or Badia Polesine with the
Abbey. It is also near the Palladio villas at Fratta and on the Riviera
del Brenta. Paths wind up along the routes and the banks of the Po among
herons and birds of every species, size and colours. Here you can go horse-riding,
you can cycle or walk as far as the sea and stop in places where you can
eat and sleep. Not just the usual routes but new itineraries to discover
ancient traditions and charming folk events such as the festivals of harvest
and grape-harvest, truffle, melons and water melons, jujubes, chestnuts
and pigs which attract all through the year those who decides to stop
in our area even for short periods.
